Gail-Marie Van Zant was born in Brisbane and raised on the Sunshine Coast. She has lived on the Gold Coast for over thirteen years. She is a descendant of the Bundjalung Nation and of the Yaegl people from Yamba in New South Wales.

Gail is a self taught artist who has been painting for over 28 years. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Deakin University in Victoria and continues to study. Gail is a contemporary artist who enjoys creating landscapes, seascapes, portraits, still life and abstract art. Gail’s artwork has been exhibited in the Koorie Heritage Trust Gallery in Melbourne and the Gummurri Centre at Griffith University on the Gold Coast. Her art has also been displayed on the Sunshine Coast, Maleny, Caboolture and Winton. Gail also works part-time as an art tutor for Deakin University and has also worked for Griffith University. She teaches Art theory and Art practice, and has also assisted at high schools.
